The Bee and the Butterfly
It was a sunny day, the sky was blue and the flowers were in full bloom. A bee was buzzing round collecting nectar from an enormous sunflower, drinking some for himself as he went. "Honey from sunflowers is the best" he thought to himself, I can't wait to take it home to my hive.
As soon as he had finished collecting the last drop of nectar, a boy named Casper came out his house. Casper was carrying a large jar, and wanted a Bee as a pet. He noticed the lazy bumbling bee leaving the sunflower and caught it in his jar, screwed the top on tight and ran inside.
The Bee was furious, "let me out of this jar" he buzzed, Casper couldn't hear him so cut three small holes in the lid, "I can't believe you put me in this jar, let me out at once, you trapped me, I am so angry with you! Buzzzzzzz" the Bee said over and over again.
Casper felt bad for trapping the Bee, but he was scared to let him go, the Bee might sting him, that would really hurt and the Bee would die. So he left the Bee alone to calm down, trying to ignore the buzzing.
"As soon as I get out of this jar I'm going to sting you so bad!" the Bee buzzed.
Meanwhile, outside the same house was a little girl called Leila, she had a net and wanted a butterfly as a pet.
There were lots of butterflies in the garden and Leila had her eye on a big blue one. Leila lurked close by until the butterfly reseted its wings and then launched her net. It was a perfect swipe and the Butterfly was trapped.
Leila put it in her jar, cut three holes in the lid and said, "now we will be friends forever".
The Butterfly, similar to the bee, was overcome with rage. "How dare you, I was just having a nap and you steal me from my family! Wait till all the other butterflies hear about what you've done, you'll never be able to play in your garden again!". Leila didn't know what to do, she wanted a pet butterfly, a friend, not an angry butterfly, and if she let it go it would tell all the other butterflies what she had done, and then she would feel terrible forever.
The Butterfly, even though only a few days old, was very wise and she took a few deep breaths in and out to calm herself down. This helped her solve problems when times got sticky, like when she was stuck in the chrysalis.
After calming down the Butterfly watched the girl, she could see she was trying to ignore the her, doing anything to keep busy, and she could sense that she felt bad for putting her in the jar so she tried another approach.
"Hello, hello" the girl turned her head "I understand, you wanted me as a pretty pet, I can see you like blue, you room is a beautiful shade of it, but you see I am not meant to be a pet, not meant to be in a jar, just as much as you aren't. We can be friends, in the garden, outside, where I can be me and you can be you, and our paths can cross and we can share moments together. I understand you didn't want to upset me, and I forgive you."
The butterfly's words made Leila's heart beat, in a good way, and she opened the jar lid and the window the Butterfly landed on Leila's had, flapped it's wings to kiss her and flew outside.
The butterfly was just about to go into the garden and be reunited with her family when she heard a buzzing from another window. She looked inside and saw a Bee that looked very tired buzzing up and down in short bursts, behind the Bee was a boy playing a noisy video game. The butterfly flew inside immediately and landed on the jar. The Bee was even angrier than before, but was very jittery
"I'm going to sting him, he can't do this to me and get away with it! Buzzz Buzzz Cough Cough"
"Psst" said the butterfly
"What do you want?" said the bee
"I want to help you"
"How can you help me? Open this jar so I can sting that boy over there that's how you can help me."
"No!" said the Butterfly "I can't and even if I could I wouldn't, if you sting him you'll die, and I couldn't live with myself."
"But if I stay in here I'll die too, so what's the difference."
"The difference is I know how to get you out, and how to get you back to your hive safe and sound."
"How?" said the Bee
"Before I tell you, there is one thing you have to understand, that boy over there never wanted to hurt you, he just wanted to keep you as a pet, and now he's scared of you, because you're really angry."
"He's right to be scared, because when I sting him"
"You're not going to sting him, because if you sting him, you'll never see you hive ever again. Imagine you were that boy and he was you, would you open this jar?"
The Bee kept quiet, he'd understood, the Butterfly flew over to the boy and landed on his hand, flapped her wings three times, the boy stopped his game and looked at the Butterfly, then she flew over to Bee landed on the lid and flew out the window.
